Overflow and sump

Would a wet dry filter sitting in refugium in sump with overflow into return chamber be viable filtration for a cichlid tank?

The sump would be a total of two chambers with the wet dry filter sitting in the refugium. Could this work?

and.......

Can I put an over flow box running the width of my tank with the siphon along the back wall?

The reason in doing this is because of the cross bracing support resting on another support attached to the front and back of the tank which ends approx 4 inches from the side walls. So as I have no length of the back of which I can hang an overflow with out protruding too far into the top of the tank.

That being said would it be possible to have the second overflow chamber hanging on the back wall of the tank so as to minimalise what is outside of the tank on the sides?

If not what other methods could be used to feed the sump/filter without drilling holes in the glass??

Edit: Could it be possible that I could make an overflow "chamber" from the background I plan to build and then place siphons at each end in order to get water to the sump??

I am not sure I understand your questions fully. Refugium and Wet/Dry filters are kind of similar but not the same thing.

A DIY PVC overflow would likely solve the issue here, for what I understand. I wish you could post a pic of your tank setting so we get a better idea.

If you are asking if you could place the inside-the-tank box at one side -say a lateral wall, and the outside-the-tank box at the rear wall I figure you would need to work on how to attach and interconnect both boxes since usually they are built to be placed one in front of the other, in parallel, not 90 degrees appart.

What type of cichlids? what size your tank?

If w/d sits in the refugium, will bioballs be submerged? If so, w/d is no longer w/d, imo.
Why dont you have water from tank pass thru micron pad, trickle over the bioballs. Then water can pass thru refugium before returning back to tank. this is possible if enough room to place both w/d and refugium and make sure to place w/d higher than refugium for gravity drain.

Pic or drawing will definitely help understanding your plan/method.
