Any good?

Found a starter kit at a LFS for $120 (for a 55 setup!)

Hello Xathine and Welcome to Fish Lore. I've never owned an Aqueon before however I"ve never heard anything bad about them. I'm sure some members that have this filter will answer you shortly. Have fun with the new toys!

I got an aqueon 29 gallon starter kit. I eventually replaced the filter with an aquaclear. I felt the aquaclear was better because I could customize the media instead of using cartridges. Other then that the tank, light, and heater were all great and I think I paid 120 for the 29 gallon setup. Definitely worth 120 for mine let alone a 55 gallon

Really...that was the cheapest I found them in my area. The 55gallon setups were about 200

I've had a aqueon filter for my 20 gallon for about 4 months and i really like it. i've heard others say that there are loud but mine is the opposit. its very quite. its has a quiet a hum but its not bothersome at all. the only thing i dislike about the aqueon is that other then the carbon cartridge there is no other filter material. just a plastic "airrator". i have added other filter material to help hold the bacteria simply for my preferance. i'm not comfortable changing the cartridge without something of substance to hold bacteria in there. other then that i love it and its worked great for me. and i agree. thats an awsome price for a 55 gallon kit.

I have the same filter, what have you added to help hold the bacteria?

I got one with my 55 set up in Jan and havent had any problems with it. I think that's an excellent price for a starter kit.
