Cascade 1000 in a 50 gallon tank?

Hi, I just inherited a few 50 gallon tanks that are quite amazing yet ancient. They are mounted on a very sturdy wooden base and the tank is made up of a huge piece of slate as the bottom with thick glass walls framed by 1" metal. It also has a valve underneath running directly into a metal rod into the tank.

My question really is would the Pen Plax Cascade 1000 be too powerful for a tank this size ?

48" long x 19"deep x 13.25" high.

I've read a bunch of reviews but would like to hear what people have to say.

Hello. I've never had one of those filters. However, your filtration should at least be 8 to 10 times your tank volume. Any stronger than that you need to take into consideration the strength of the current and can the fish handle it...(50 gallon tank should have 500gph). Hope this helps and would love to see pictures of your tanks once you're up and running. Good luck and have fun!

im a cascade junky!!!! love them and have them on all my bigger tanks...I have the 1200 on a 75 gal sa cichlid tank and a 1500 on a 75 gal african tank....IMO, you cannot have too much filtration..what type of fish are you going to keep in the tank? if the water outtake is too much, you can have some silk vine plants going across the top to slow it down....congrats on the tank and filter!

if the tank is full to the top, the waters arent that rough...the bar goes along the top surface in the back of the tank ....i think it will be fine
