I have a 55 gallon aquarium, with 3m colorquartz S grade as the substrate. I plan on having medium amount of fish and a medium amount of plants. I have looked at the Marineland c-360 but thats about it. Any ideas?

I'm not familiar with the Marineland C series, but have heard good things about them. Rena XP3 or Fluval 305 should do the trick nicely if you think you might like those. One thing I always suggest is to ignore the manufacturer's rating. I always go the next size up for my tank.

Same here. Eheim classics all the way then Rena. Have tons of them, well good amt of them tucked away for future use!
