my husband is as we speak...er type...picking up a couple 2nd hand tanks for me. they have sponge filters with them that I know nothing about. can someone give me the scoop on how they work and what kind of maintenance routine i need on it?

Sponge filters are very simple and easy to maintain. They connect to an airpump which plugs into an outlet. I believe that the only maininance involved is rinsing the sponge in tank water once in a while when it needs to be cleaned.
