So I have 2 bio wheel filters on my 56 oscar/jack demspey tank, and 1 on my 55 african tank. My father just got his own tank set up (trying to one up me with his 75 gallon) He got a canister filter for his. Is it really worth buying one? I think it is because i just had to buy new wheels for all my filters and it was like 60$ for 4 of them!

Canister is the way to go,initial expense is a bit but long run and efficiency is second to none. Try this place valuepetsupplies.com Ebay ads too,got a Fluval 405 for $162.00 free shipping. Im lookin to put one on my 56 gallon with 2 oscars and a jack. What Canister filter would be best that won't burn a huge hole in my wallet?

Check out craigslist you can prolly find a canister on the cheap. A guy I know bought a 55 gallon setup with a canister for what a new canister would have cost. There is also freecycle, I have not used it but a few here have and found some really nice stuff for free.
