Aqua-Tech Filter from Wal-Mart isn't working.

Hi! I'm new to this site.

I bought a Aqua-Tech 10g from Wal-Mart three weeks ago and I readthe instructions and kept everything running four twenty-four hours. The filter took awhile to start up but it did.

Yesterday I went out to the city(Because I live in the middle of nowhere with no stores) and bought two platies and one guppy. I came back and turned everything on. I placed the bag on the water, left it like that for ten minutes so the fish could get used to the temp. and then I netted them out into the tank.

And suddenly, ten seconds later, the filter stops. It stopped out of no where and it's still plugged in. So I brought out a back-up filter&pump I bought while I was at Wal-Mart but it's one that stays under water.

I took a four hour nap and when I woke up, the filter was working again! I get up to look at it through the tank and it stops AGAIN!

By now I'm paranoid, thinking the Aqua-tech people have a hidden camera in the tank, watching me, hoping I'll call them to buy a new replacement. Grr.

Anyways. I took it out and cleaned it, making sure nothing was clogging it up and it was clear. I don't know what else to do and it's making me mad!

Ahh, can anyone help me? I'd really like that. )=

Hi Welcome to Fish Lore
I have a couple of them and have never had a problem. When you started the filter, did you add water to it to get it going?

I'd ask walmart to exchange it. They're pretty good with that.

Thanks!

And yes, I did put water in there before plugging it in. There's water in it right now as well. The propeller, the thing at the bottom, doesn't seem to be moving though. There's nothing stuck in it so could that be the problem?

Sometimes impellers get stuck, can you move it freely?

yes my aquatech in my lil tank gets stuck sometimes. Try cleaning out the perpeller. If that dont work turnit off take out the sponge and filter cartridge sit them aside and rinse the inside of the filter and intake tubes and perpeller. You might just had something cought in it.

I have two of those and they work fine. I did have a similar situation to yours when the power plug was just not staying properly seated in my power bar. I moved it to a different socket and I haven't had a problem since.
