I have some Jebo filters (models 502, 505) and happen to gave my nephew a 508 for his 30gal tank on his birthday a couple of weeks ago. Yes they are way cheaper but they do work fairly well.
My problems with them: The top cover of the 505 fall into the floor and broke into two pieces (solved this with clear epoxy). The 502 intake gets clogged too easily.
I use them as back-up/complimentary units: The 502 is in a 10 gal where I have a Hydro Sponge-IV as main unit (juveniles of Convicts and Kenyi). The 505 is in a 45gal where a Plo Clear Aquatic Systems mod75 Wet/Dry
sump filter is the main unit (to aid in mechanical filtration).
They do their work, just a bit fragile. I use AquaClear filter media with them with no problems. I do suspect that their actual flow rate might be somewhat less than rated, but my readings (steady
ammonia and nitrites at zero, nitrates around 10ppm) confirm they work fairly well.
