Penguin 100 Filter intake tube length too long?

I just bought a new Penguin 100 Bio-wheel filter and I am trying to install it into new 10 gal tank. The problem is when I try to hang the filter on the back of the tank the intake tube is so long that it goes deep into the gravel. Is it supposed to do that? Should I clear gravel around it? I have about 2 inches of gravel there.

Thanks

My daughter's filter was like that. My husband used a hacksaw to cut it then re-attached the bottom peice.

Lucy is absolutely right.

The intake should sit a least 2” above your gravel line. And two inches of gravel is a nice gravel level. A hacksaw will make a clean straight cut to shorten the intake tube.

Although I’m not sure that is absolutely necessary. Are you also using the extension tube? I have a penguin 200 in my 10 gallon and without the extension tube it fits just fine. If your 100 has a mid tank pickup as my 200 does simply remove it.

I have that filter on a standard 10 gallon tank. Just remove the extension part of the tube and attach the end. The extention tube is only needed on a taller tank.

Thank you all for the reply. So, that mid tank pickup thing is not really needed?
If I remove both that pickup thing and extension tube, then the tube will end probably somewhere in the middle of the tank and that should be ok, right?

nope you don't need the one in the middle. i use it on my 20 gallon but that's just because i have a 20 tall not a 20 long, on my 10 i dont use the extension. it's fine for the intake to be in the middle as well good luck!

Yes... You can loose the adjustable mid tank intake with no concerns.
