Fluval 203

Ok so I got the canister filter with my tank. However for the most part it is in pieces and I don't know how to put them back together. The following are some pics. Please help. Also (and this sounds bad) which is the intake and output lines? I'm assuming that the one connecting to the motor at the top would be the intake but I could be wrong.

... got a fatal error will try to get the rest up.

hmmm... resizing the wrong thing makes fatal errors...

Ok here are some more...
this came with the filter and I'm not sure where it goes, saw a box of it today that said it was a pre-filter of some sort?

Ok, never mind I'm mostly stupid. I've got the intake and output tubes figured out. Only one and a half problems remain.
1)the round rubber ring (O ring?) when put on the top to seal prevents me from clipping the top to the bottom of the canister.
2) I am unable to get the filter to prime.
Please Please Please (and thank-you in advance) can someone give me some tips? I've been trying to prime this thing for over an hour and I'm not having much luck...

Hi Red,

According to this manual at step #10, you have to suck on the EXHAUST valve to pull in water from the intake tube to fill up the canister. Do check with the previous pages if you installed your filter correctly.

I hope this helped, good luck! <3

Why is the water only trickling out though?

hmm is the canister located above or below your aquarium? i expect that once the canister is full and you point the exhaust tube to the tank, turn it on and it should start flowing? or did you mean that the exhaust flow is only a trickle? are the valves of both intake and exhaust fully open? if the flow is still weak you may have to check the impeller motor and clean it... Make sure the cap is aligned properly with the canister when you close it again.

PS. looking again at the pictures i noticed that you may have your media installed in reverse. the mechanical filter (foam/sponge) should be at the bottom, then the chemical in the middle (activated carbon), then the biological media at the top (bio ceramics).

I was looking at those but I found a box of them in the store and they said that they're pre-filters. Which according to the site say should be on the bottom.
I have the media set up as: bottom: pre-filter bead thingys middle: sponge top: filter fiber. I don't need carbon in the tank unless I medicate it in the future. I'm not sure how to explain the way that the flow is, other then I think that my aquaclear runs fast. The water is just sort of draining out of the spray bar but there isn't any pressure behind it. The canister is in the cabnet below my tank.
