Is it Safe to Use Previous SW Wet/Dry in new FW Tank?

Hi. I have an used, dismantled for some time, Wet/Dry sump filter. It was used in a 55gal SW tank from an unknown (to me) client at the LFS. I also have the protein skimmer (which is going to the DIY loose/spare parts).

Although this looks like a DIY model, or at least has some DIY parts in it, I have to say it is fairly well built. It needs minor repairs (the inverted U shaped transparent tube is cracked; one of the indentations in the overflow box is broken).

Is it a good idea to clean this thoroughly or can I skip that part since it has been dry for some time?

I intend to seed it in my Oscars-Severum-Convicts tank (healthy and with significant bio-load) and use it in a 55gal I'm bringing home.

yeah, it would be a good idea to give it a good bleaching, then rise it til the scent of bleach is gone. clean it not just to remove salt remnants but to also get rid of any dust and other debris that's in/on it. -fishlover78

Ok. Settled, I repaired the damaged parts, going to use bleach to clean it.
