Help my fish are being sucked into my intake

Hello all i have a acua clear 300 filter in my 30 gallon tank and i am having a problem with my fish being sucked into the intake in the tank. I have lost 3 tetras so far and it is breaking my heart to see this. Can any one suggest a intake cover or something that i can use on my intake tube

I'm really sorry for the lose of your fish.
You can wrap a filter sponge around it using a rubberband.

Is your filter extra strong? Healthy fish shouldn't be effected by the intake. Are you sure they didn't pass on first then get sucked to it?

Sounds like what Shawnie said. Unless for some reason the filter is running to hard. Either way a sponge or a piece of netting wrapped around the intake with a rubber
band should fix your problems.

I took a small rectangular filter and carved a small hole in it. Then placed it over the intake tube. The suction of the HOB was enough to keep it in place until my small cardinals had a chance to grow.

Wow! I was afraid of the same problem. You should get a whisper filter. It only has some notches were fish cannot get sucked in. The bottom is closed off. Sorry about your tetras.

I second the sponge idea. In fact, I have that on all of my filters in fry tanks. Just make sure and get a sponge from your LFS and not from a grocery store. The grocery sponges are often saturated with soap to keep them soft. That will kill your fish faster than your filter...
