I have a fluval 304 set up on my 55 gallon tank. Everything works fine, but the return literally pushes my fish across the tank to the glass. Is this a problem or do they enjoy this. If it is a problem, can I turn the nozzle so that it blows across the tank lengthwise?

well I'd research the species of fish and see if they normally live with a strong current but just judging from the fact that they're being pushed around so easily, they're either playing in it or as miserable as a betta in a whirlpool. I'd try arranging it so it doesn't hit the fish so hard

I'm not familiar with your type of filter but you can rig up some kind of baffle.
Mine's pretty easy, I stuck a peice of filter sponge up the outtake so the water trickles down.
