There's a lot of different commercially available media, there's also many different 'home based' media you can use.

You can use ceramic rings, scotch scrub pads, gravel, porous rock (for landscaping), sand, and lots and lots of others. These are great for bio-filtration,in any canister filter, easily cut-down to different sizes, cheap and work as-good if not better than commercial media.

SOF is right, and a lot of the commercially produced canister media cost a ton of dough! like the bio balls are a ripoff!

That's a good site for info, I use the nylon scrubbers myself along with the scotch scrub pads. It's good to know I am not the only 1 with the idea. They work great and last a looooooooooooooooooooooong time.
