three filters is this over kill

Good day to all,

I have a 30 gallon fresh water fish tank and currently have two 20 gallon bio-wheel filters on them both have the bio-wheel and a two in 1 sponge and carbon filter. A friend gave me a 100 gallon AquaClear 300 filter with no media, this week end I plan to buy a sponge and Bio-max media to prevent amonia build up oh yeah i will not be adding carbon media to the AquaClear filter. Ok with all this filtration is this over kill will I actually harm my fish with all this filtration?

From what i know, you cant overdo it when it comes to filtrations, if anything it might be overkill for your electric bill, but i dont think it will do anything to your fish.

I agree...it won't hurt anything, but isn't really necessary. One potential benefit is that if you ever decide to set up a 2nd tank, or need to set up a quarantine tank, you will be able to just move one filter over to the other tank and cycle it almost instantly.

There is one way to harm your fish with too much filtration: If the fish aren't made to deal with high currents (bettas are a good example of such a fish). With enough filters, you could probably turn your aquarium into a veritable whirlpool, which would be detrimental to your fishes' health.
Three, however, isn't all that horrible.
As was said above, there's little benefit. Once you've reached the threshold of the ammonia being more or less instantly converted to nitrites and the nitrites being more or less instantly converted to nitrates, they provide very little advantage.
However, if one of your filters crashes, or if you need to cycle another tank, the extra filters will be helpful.
