More of an oppinion though

There is this awesome sale on petco for a 2.5 minibow...

but, it comes with an UGF... is it any good? is it worth the trouble? does it actually have a good bio filtration?

Any imput would be great, as I am thinking of getting this one.

You could probabaly find another filter small enough to work. But I've had a UGF in a 2.5 with no real complaints. Though it was never set up very long.

The UGF's can get really nasty underneath and they're a pain to clean. The problem is you can't see under the plate unless you look under the tank.
I'm pretty sure Walmart has the 2.5 with a small whisper filter for about the same price.
