?'s about filter for 10-20 gal. tank

Hi all, here are some options I was considering for my 10-20 gal. tank that I will be getting to help relieve some stress from my overstocked 27 gal. tank, my acquaintance who works at a local own local pet shop said that I could have the filter floss from one of her tanks, will this help with the cycle? well anyway here is the considerations

-1-2 box filters (no the best but will do the job)
-aqua clear 20 power filter (what I have always used)
-whisper in tank filter
-aqueon power filter
and maybe a sponge filter for extra filtering on the bottom

what Do you think?, I haven't purchased a filter in years so I really don't know whats best now a days. I know its only a few gallons but I rather not buy and try them all until I find the right one (I did this last time I needed a filter) and then have to return all the other ones. that was my main reason for posting because I don't want to go through that again. your input would be greatly appreciated! -fishlover78

Hope you get your 33gal tank soon.

As a rule of thumb I use multiple filters per tank. AquaClear HOBs is old technology but really flexible as filter media you use. It's my favorite filter brand so far (putting the wet/dry sumps and canisters aside)

If you rather use power head filtration (I assume AC 20 power is the powerhead with prefilter, if you mean the AC 20 HOB, my mistake -English is my second language and I could confuse power filters as powerhead-filters and the term equals HOBs ), I see no reason changing that. I like the mechanical/biological filtration they provide.

Consider the fish you are placing in your 10 -20. I would use slower flow for gouramis, but faster for your live-bearers and danios.
