8 gallon filter problem

i required a 8 gallon tank from a friend and the filter doesnt pump water out good its one of those pumps that sits on top of the tank i even took it apart to see if there was something stuck in it nothing i put a 10g pump on it and since its a bow front and top light fits perfect on top and now holes in back of the light i put the pump through the feeding hole it fit perfect there and then turned the tank around so the back is the front and the front is the back but the current is to strong so i need to do something else get anoter pump for this, build one, or find a way to slow the 10g down, the 10g pump not on it right now, the one that came with it is,

I don't know if this will work on your filter. I shoved some extra filter media into the outtake. It's help in place with a peice of plastic plant. Not fancy, but it works.

I did something similar. I just rubberbanded a filter sponge over the outlet. It gets rid of the current completely, and adjusted it made a perfect slow current for my bettas.

I noticed the water isn't filled to the top. Was that for illustration?
The current will be slower if you fill it.
