New tank, new filter, a couple questions.

I just got a 5.5 up and cycled with my betta. I bought a new filter (stingray 5) and at the moment have both it and the old filter running togeather since I just it to help cycle. Now I've got a few questions.

1) How long do I need to run both filters till the new one has enough bacteria to handel it on it's own?

2) I don't have an adjustable flow rate on the new filter but I can rotate the jet 360 degree's. However it seems to produce a fair bit of current, do you know how I can break it up a bit? I've already have some plants in from of it but that doesn't seem to be helpling much. I have it pointing to the back of the tank but that just seems to cause a current down the middle of my tank towards it.

K. That's it thanks everybody in advance.

1) At least 2 weeks, you can take the filter media out of the old filter and put it in your new filter or tank, it would seed it just as well.

2) I don't know what your filter looks like, but I stuck a peice of filter media up my out take and held it in place with a plastic plant.

I've got a pic of it some where, let me find it and I'll edit this post. You can see how the water trickles down. I can also use that peice later to seed a tank if need be.

Hope this helps.
