I've happily been using my Elite 5 for a while, and only just noticed in my idiocy that the smallprint on the box says suitable up to 15 gallon tanks. I'm using a 55 gallon. Ahem. Luckily I've noticed before it's too late, but the only thing spare I could find is an old Fluval plus3. I did the usual thing of pulling a pantyhose over it up to the wire to prevent any fins getting trapped / small fish swimming into the output, but I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this filter? I was a little concerned to see a lack of hooks or suction cups, is it really just meant to rest on my substrate unsupported?

The Fluval 3 plus should have a fitting with suction cups that slots into the back at the top of the filter that allows the Fluval to be attached to tank via the suction cups.

You might be able to source one or a DIY job will do.

The Fluval 3 plus is suitable for 90cm aquariums or 30 US gallons.

Are you running the Fluval 3 plus in parallel with your Elite 5? so that the beneficial bacteria can build up before removing the Elite 5
