Would 100 % polyester filling from a craft store work?? or would that be bad. im pretty sure that it doesnt have any chemicals on it.

Yep, same thing!

Edit : Just to confirm this... I'm looking at the bag I have from the LFS, its 100% polyester fiber, the exact same thing as what you find at craft stores.

We got the craft store variety here in the Fishhouse. We got it on sale at like $1 a bag for pillow-sized bags.

Yeah, I already knew they were the same thing, the pet store near me sells it for 2.99 a bag lol, I'm just too lazy to drive to the craft store and buy it... plus the cost of gas would probably even out the cost of the fiber floss, I live about 2 blocks from the pet store.

I also use polyester craft batting as filter floss...you just have to make sure that is isn't mildew or fire retardant and you are good to go.
