Particle control - mechanical filter

Hello all,
I am new, have not the aquarium yet, but have ordered a 230 l tank and will have a sump below (Fresh Water). Actually I would like to have a flow allowing me to make filtration in the sump and not in the tank itself. 'Self cleaning' tanks are quite normal in aquaculture (my work) but with decoration gravel and plants it is complicated. Anyone made such setup? - my sump will have 30 micron filter, 2 x kaldness biofilters, heater and return pump - maybe UV..
Thanks :-)

Thanks.. I think my question is not exactly 'main-stream', but still hope someone have some input. The key it that I hope to keep solids suspended (waste feed and fish waste) and treat them in th sump below.. In aquaculture you have a round tank with suction in the center, but in aquariums? Well..

I really like that set-up idea.

Maybe not cost-effective to use wet/dry or sump filter systems for small tanks; but what worries me most is the noise level of the waterpump. I'm glad you are here sharing your experience with us. Wellcome to fishlore!

cost effective - NO

Agreed, the set-up is a bit similar as aquaculture. They use 12 m in diameter tanks .. so. Still wait on material to arrive. Have biofilter and 25 micron screens.
