turning off the filter

how long could i safely turn the filter off for?

i have a 60 litre tank with a hang on back filter, its in the guest room being used as a growing on tank at the moment.
should a guest come to sleep, how long can i turn the filter off for over night before im in trouble. would 8 hours be safeish?
im only thinking of the noise should it be a problem.
no guest ust yet just baby fish
thanks

Is it that loud? I barely hear mine, maybe I'm used to it.

I don't think 8hrs would be good. If you turn off your filter too long, you'll lose your benefical bacteria and the tank would become uncycled.

Your guests might actually find the sound soothing.

I agree with Lucy, I have a tank in my room and the sound never even phases me... I wouldn't advise turning it off.

Who doesn't like the sound of running water? I think it's really peaceful and can't wait to set a tank up in my room to listen to it

Turning the filter off can break the cycle on the tank, as well as allow water toxins to spike and affect the fish in the tank.

Before doing ANYTING let the guests decide IF its loud or not. I agree with other posters I find my filter rather soothing( I fall asleep to mine ALL THE TIME lol) its like what they say "white noise"( a sound that covers other sounds).
