Hi Tetragirl.
I was checking the Juwel filtering system. It's a submerged, well designed filter that provides biological filtration by establishing bacteria colonies in its multiple sponge media, with low water flow. If it is indeed damaged, I don't think you could have it fixed. But check carefully for cloged/obstructed water/air pathways.
This filter is not intended for mechanical or chemical filtration (removal of debris or particles), but seems to be a very decent biological filter.
If you replace it with a similar one, use the sponges from the old filter in the new one, in case some bacteria is still alive it could prevent you from cycling your tank again. However, if your filter went out for more than one day, your colonies of bacteria could be dead/decimated allready. Water testing will give you a good idea where your tank is standing.
To be cautious do a close to 50% water change today, and keep checking your water parameters in the coming days, once you get your filtration system back to work.
It is a good idea to have multiple filters per tank. In my smaller tanks I combine one HOB with a sponge or fiber filter that works with the airpump, just in case something goes wrong, or in case I need seeded sponge media for a new tank, you know the MTS thing...
Hope you post your aquarium info, and some pics. Also, you've been in fishlore since January, hope to see you around more often. Keep us posted -I would like to know if you could fix it or what solution you went for. Today I learned about this particular filter thanks to you.

I have had other types of filters stop working, HOB type filters, so my experience won't be useful for you.
