Hi,
My brother is in the market for a new aquarium (he currently has a 20 Gallon) and wants to go big (approx 75 Gallon tank and stand).. I'm am giving my filter to him (ehiem 2215 classic) bacterias already established and had for a few months ... I've been looking at the Ehiem 2227 wet/dry filter to replace my current setup.. Its apparently suppose to be a great bio filter.. but how is the mechanical filtering part?? anybody using it for a freshwater setup.. any opinion on this filter??

Although the performance of the 2227 wet-dry is great, it should be noted that this filter disrupts the performance of hang on protein skimmers because of the constant change in water levels. I had to remove it from my reef tank as a consequence. I would not recommend this filter where a protein skimmer is needed.
