Which filter? (Fluval or Eheim)

Well I am now at the stage that I need to purchase a filter to get my tank up and running. So what filter do I buy?

I am tossing up between a Fluval 205 or an Eheim Classic 2213 as these state that they are rated for up to 200ltr (44g) tanks, and mine is a 165ltr (36g) one. I also looked at a Aquarworld Ef1100, but no-one seems to have heard of these.

Any opinions on either of these? They are very similar in price here in Australia retailing for about $170 to $180.

I personally have always used Eheim, not that I wouldn't be happy with Fluval. Eheim parts are easy to come by, and the classic cannisters have been around forever. The 2213 comes with a removable media insert which makes cleaning very easy. It would also do a great job on a tank of your size.

I have a 36 gallon tank and am using a Fluval 205 and I'm very happy with it. It works great, and maintenance is a breeze.

Well I went and bought a Fluval 305.. its was a bit more expensive than an eheim 2215, but with a 1000ltr flow rate, I reckon I made the right choice.

Now a quick question, can I put the suction, and outlet hose close together in the tank? I don't wanna cut too many holes in the back of my hood, and I looks neat having them side by side.

Also can I run the hoses level around the side of the cabinet and then up?

I think it says in the instructions (or maybe the DVD that came with mine) that the intake and suction should be spread apart.
