Is there such thing as putting too many ceramic rings in the filter?

i was thinking that i'd go crazy with the ceramic rings in my new penguin 200 filter so i bought 2 of those aquaclear biomax inserts each meant for a 70 gal filter. my filter is really only meant for up to a 50 gal tank (where my tank is actually a 29 gal).

so...is there such thing as putting too many ceramic rings in the filter?

I wouldn't think so, I believe the box says something about each ring having so much surface area so I'd assume the more the better to house plenty of benefitional bacteria. I mostly just use filter floss in my filters so I find the rings help weight the floss down enough so it doesn't keep floating out of the filter.

As long as the water circulates through them freely I don't think you can get too many.

you certainly can not have too many! I PACK my filters with the bio-ceramics. I replace the charcoal with ceramic, i even add an extra one in for good measure. I have enough ceramic rings for a 120 gallon aquarium in my 20 gallon, all right!

oh my goodness...that's awesome!!
thanks for letting me know

right now i don't have any room in the filter for more but i'll be cutting the charcoal portion of the cartridge off soon which'll free up some more space
