I'm looking for two new pumps for my next Hiatt "Right Now" bacteria de-nitrating filter system test. I need a pump that can push about 600 GPH through about 27" of back pressure, to be installed with two carbon pipe filters on a 125 gallon tank.
I'm considering the Taam Rio Hyper Flow 14:

or the Pentair Aquatics Quiet One 3000:

My decision is clouded by the mixed track record of each company's pump product lines (and nearly all pump manufacturer's product lines, for that matter). Rio is not particularly well-regarded, in general, but the Hyper Flow line seems to get surprisingly good reviews for both performance and reliability.
Reviews of the Quiet One line are very mixed. It seems they may have redesigned the line and suffered a serious quality lapse recently.
All else being equal, I like the Quiet One's ability to run submerged or in-line. Thus, in-line operation may be used to reduce heat transfer to the tank, if necessary, though I don't think I'll need to do so with my initial planned application.
Either pump can be found online for as little as $42.50 plus shipping.
Testimonies are very much appreciated and thanks!
