Filter Question

I have a small filter to put in a goldfish tank,
my problem is that it's old a small goldfish, and the filter is a little to rough for him.
Is there anything i can do (put over it, or in front of it) to make the air flow coming out of it not-so-rough/fast.

Thanks!

You can use a rubber band to secure a piece of filter sponge in front of the outflow maybe?

okay.
I put it in at first cause i thought it'd be okay,
and my poor goldfish went for a ride,

I felt so bad for him!

what about just a normal sponge?
or does it need to be a filter sponge?

I think a filter sponge is best. I'm not really sure what would result from using a sponge meant for cleaning.

Could try some filter floss too if you have any. I have done that before and worked quite well for our fry. Also what COBetta said will work too. I have done that one also. Do you have a picture of the filter? I think a sponge for cleaning might be too thick and might block too much water and make a mess or if you can use it as a "deflector" it might work. Just make sure it is new. I assume the intake doesn't have a flow control on it. What about trying to block the intake a little bit to see if it will reduce the flow?
