Hi, I just purchased a used 40 gallon and want a new filter for it, does anyone have any recommendations? I have always used the Whisper brand and that is what I have in my 29 gallon. Would that brand be ok or is their a better choice? Thanks!!

I have used whispers and they work fine, but Aquaclear is my favorite! I like them because you don't have to change out the filter media all at once like in the whispers (your tank can go through a mini cycle because of this). The construction of them is really nice and I think they do a fantastic job

We have a lot of Whisper filters but have been buying the Penquin Biowheel filters lately. And those AquaClear filters MissMTS likes are very good too.

I suggest getting a Whisper 60. It will have a little bit more gph filtration than you need, but that will only help to keep your tank cleaner, which means less water changes after your tank is cycled. And the Whisper 60 can be bought at a pretty reasonable price. I have one of these along with the Emperor 400 on my 55 gallon and they both work great! Never had any problems or complaints about either.

I am sure people here will say they are crap but I have 2 Aqueon Power Filter 30's on my tank and they are great. I had a problem with one (loud motor, bent cover) and emailed them and the next day they sent out a replacement whole unit.
