Just wondering if this would work

ok... i have a 14g tank that is newly cycled (thank God) and not has 6 serpae tetras and a cory... as of right now it has a tetra(something) 15g filter and a 5-15 air pump running a single 8in wand...

my gf pointed out that it seems all our fish are bottom to mid tank and the top is bare... i know ur thinking this is another guy asking if adding top water fish would count in inches to the tank but i'm not... i was wondering if upgrading my air pump(or aeriation in general) and filter (something rediculous like a 50-60g) would allow for more fish... i know it is really a rule of thumb for 1in per gallon but i wouldn't mind adding some other tetras or smt that will fill up the tank a little better... i figure the added current probably wouldnt hurt seeing as how tetras come froma faster current area...

Hi Big Joe, you do still have a couple of inches to play with. I think the main concern with over filtration is the current, although I'm not positive about that.

IMHO, it wouldn't hurt to be a couple of inches over the 1" rule if you keep up with your water changes.

How about ghost shrimp? They don't add much to the bio load and are really fun to watch.

Filters should go 10 times your gallons per hour, so if you wanted to go with a bigger filter you could go to around 140 gph give or take! The filter would add a little bit, but not much.

I agree with the ghost shrimp! I love them!

The Bioload for the tank would be the same no matter what levels the fish swim at. I think you could add a couple of cories (since they don't like being solitary) though.

They might shoal, but it won't be the same as other corys of the same type.
