Biological Filter Media

I've always had 55 Gal Tanks with undergravel filter I just set up a 210 Gal With A Fluval FX5 Rated for 400 Gal But it just don't look like there is enough Biological Media for that size of tank i guess I would like the opinion of Someone With more canister expirence than me Thank You Rodger

Welcome to Fishlore.
Part of the beauty of canister filters is flow rate and pressure. The pressure allows finer biological media to be used, which means that there's more surface area in a smaller space. Flow rate means that there's more water and nitrogen passing over the bacteria, which speeds the nitrification process.

I'm not sure about this particular one (I know about canisters in general, but I don't have any, so I don't know any specifics), so I'm not positive about this particular filter.
Does the filter give just the one rating (400g) or does it give a range (like 200g-400g)? If it gives a range, use the lower number, and it will keep that tank just fine.

Another bonus is that live plants offer a ton of extra biological media, especially if they're frilly plants. The current produced by the canister will push water over the leaves. I would think you should be good with what you've got.
Let's see if someone with more canister experience answers.

Welcome to Fishlore.

We just have HOB filters and recommend them, but those fluvals have a real good reputation and if you want to put a filter sponge or 2 from a sponge filter in the tank, that could be 1 way to increase the biological filter.

If it just says 400g, you should be sitting great with that tank.
Of course, there's no harm in adding more biological filtration. It won't allow you to overstock or anything, but it will give you a backup in case one of your filters gives up the ghost.
