This is more of a mixed filter/air question...

I have the penguin biowheels in all of my tanks... the larger tanks I also have the eheim eccos.... However, 2 of my tanks the ones w/ the peacocks I have sand in the substrate. The airstones that I have are causing some major problems and I need some suggestions!
Yesterday after getting a new biowheel filter for my smaller tank I noticed the airstone pushing sand into the suction part of the filter... and it would shut the filter down... on my bowfront the filter is rattling from the same problem....
should I get a bubble curtion that would be suctioned on the back away from the substrate? my smaller tank has live plants in it I was thinking of getting small air things to sit in the side away from the filter...

My other question is w/ all the current w/ the eheim ecco and penguin in that tank do I really need the extra o2? That would go for my mbuna tank too... I noticed quite a bit of alge the last water change, and according to mr liminology, degree in enviromental science hubby of mine the extra disovled o2 in the tanks were problematic....

I would lose the airstones completely. The filters combined with the live plants should provide ample O2 for the fish. I don't use airstones at all, just the HOB filters and plants.

I agree. Bio-Wheels, in particular, do a great job of aerating the water. The only tank that I maintain aeration in for the fishes' health is my molly tank, which is extremely tall and narrow (which makes for poor gas-exchange). The other two tanks that have aeration, it's decorative.

I like the suction cups to keep the airstones up away from the sand.
