Quick Question

I just baught Hagen AquaClear Power Filters 30, and when i read the reviews people said that it is very quiet, but mine makes a humming noise, i think it comes from the fan. Am i doing anything wrong, or is it supposed to be like that?

I consider my AquaClear to be very quiet, but it still does make a noise. I don't think you're going to get a completely silent filter. How bad is the humming? Just noticeable, or is it annoying?

If I notice my filter is a bit louder than normal, usually just giving it couple gentle taps on the top of it quiets it down. However, in the time that I've had the filter (over a year), I've probably only done that a few times. It really is a very nice filter.

they hum a little bit, but like they said you won't every find a silent HOB filter.

The only thing that might cause it to be VERY loud is the lid resonating, I leave it off and it keeps it very quiet. You could alternatively strap it to the filter with a piece of tape.

Also, it will get quieter with use. I think it actually uses bio-matter to lubricate the impeller assembly.

Also make sure that your filter tube is inserted into the hole inside the filter box the right way. It sits inside the hole above the rotating motor and if not in correctly can give off a humming noise.

I've had the 10, 50 and 110 version of the AquaClear and they have all been pretty silent for me. Silent as in I can barely hear it over the sound of the water (I keep my water level a tiny bit low to have room for floating decorations). Is the intake tube completely filled with water? I noticed when I set mine up it didn't fill completely but still ran and made an awful lot of noise - using the little tab to keep the filter level did fix that right up.
