Aquatic Plants.....in my filter??

Hi, all! I recently was given a 10 gallon tank with two bunches of aquatic plants and a baggie of what are supposed to be red cherry shrimp. (ID questions about those later!) Today I got a Marineland 100B HOB filter. I had to modify it a little so that it all fit together correctly; basically I didn't put on the extender or the adjustable intake because they were too long for the aquarium. It's all been together & running for about two hours and the water is noticeably clearer. The only problem I'm seeing is that a large amount of little plants are sticking to the filter intake. I don't know how to fix this. Is there an inexpensive way to address this problem? Thanks in advance!!

Hi!

First, your tank isn't cycled. Look here: http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm
I know...

Do daily water changes until you get those levels to the safe zone!

With plants - I just pull them out of the intake and root them properly. Did you take them out of their bunches? they won't grow properly otherwise.
