BioBox2 Filter

Hi, I have an aquatlantis biobox2 filter which I know very little about thanks to the inadequate instructions provided. Does anyone know how frequently, if ever, it should be cleaned and how?
On a different vain, I have one of those stick on thermometers which gives a different reading from a thermometer I use to test new water. Can anyone recommend a good type of thermometer which is very accurate?

I would definitely get one of the glass thermos (the ones with the red liquid inside) they stick to the inside of the aquarium and are easy to read.

Is the filter a HOB, internal, or canister filter.
I don't know about that particular filter, but if we know the general type, we'll be able to give you some basic guidelines on upkeep.

We clean the filter floss & sponges once a week. Just swish it around in a bowl of treated tap water, then put it back in. You just want to get any big pieces off.

Please check out this link for info on our filter, not much maintenance info on there but at least it lists what it cintains. Just need some care tips.

That's an internal filter.
In that case, COBettaCouple's advice of swishing the filter media once a week is good.
The reason I asked is that some filters (like canisters) require very particular care.

I really don't like canisters. Biowheel all the way.
