Meerkats & Chipmunks !!!

Hi everyone

Just wanted to ask if anyone ever saw how meerkats and chipmunks look, and what adorable animals they are! I'd love to have a chipmunk and a meerkat at home! If you ever watch Animal Planet or National Geographic, they sometimes have programs about meerkats - you wouldn't believe how smart and adorable these creatures are! They raise their young so attentively and they live in families (extremely social creatures) - they're like tiny humans, lol! They even have elaborate displays of love and affection for their partners - plus, they have lifetime partners!

As for chipmunks ... the first time I ever saw one was when I went kayaking Upstate NY. I stopped by the river's edge to rest and to eat a sandwich. As I am sitting on a rock and eating, I see this cuttest and funniest tiny squirrel-like creature with a few white-and-black stripes across the length of its back peeping from the nearby bushes, LOL! It slowly came up to me, of course because it wanted a piece of my sandwich! So I gave it a piece, it quickly took it and carried it off somewhere, and then came back in no time for another piece, lol. So I was feeding it like this for a good while. When I came back home I searched the web to find what kind of a creature I was dealing with, and I found it was a chipmunk. It is SOOO adorable!

You've GOTTA love these two animal species Here are the pictures of meerkats and chipmunks:

Re: Meerkats & Chipmunks !!!

meerkats are predominantly social animals grouping in close families of about 6 -14, they can be very aggressive and yet very curious at the same time - ever seen them kill a mozambican spitting cobra? one of the most poisonous snakes in south africa, very brave little things! they also have very fussy diets, like crickets, and beetles that are only found in Africa, but chipmunks on the otherhand I believe would be much better house pets - you could if you are willing get a mongoose, they eat eggs and insects you could get and are also very smart and adapt better to a house environment, my friend has one that shes has since he was a baby, hes so cute and sits on your shoulder and makes these cute little sounds...

Re: Meerkats & Chipmunks !!!

I didn't mean it "literally" ... lol, I don't know what I'd do with a meerkat in my house! Unless I lived in some countryside or on some big farm ... I'd love to get one, but NYC is NO PLACE for a meerkat! If I only could, I'd get it, together with a chipmunk But ... living where I live ... that's rather impossible. Or even if I could, I wouldn't want a meerkat to suffer in a city ... these creatures need to live in nature I wouldn't do this to a meerkat! (Unless, like I said, I had huge spreads of land where it could roam freely )

Well ... Kerryve, I'd LOVE to have a meerkat and a chipmunk in my house ... just can't because of where I live. (You don't get huge spreads of land in NYC.)

Re: Meerkats & Chipmunks !!!

I'm sorry that you have lack of land. Luckly where I live there is a regional park so there are all kinds of prairie dogs running around. Not exactly meerkats but still same cute social interactions. I'll try to post a pic asap. They are all big and getting ready for winter so they look the cutest I think.

it is very nice. the only time it is sad is when they build over their homes. but there is plenty of protected land.
