Just added 4 tiger barbs to my planted 20 gal tall. First time with barbs. They all went to a corner and are just chillin. Not showing any sign of disease and eating once a day. They have been like that for three days now, is this normal? Tank cycled for 6 weeks, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, pH 6.8, ammonia .10, temp 78F. should i add more in a week or so? No other fish in tank.Went to the LFS and they said ammonia was high and said to use AmQuel plus, but im a bit sketchy about adding it. Thanks for any help, great sight.

I had tiger barbs before and all but 1 died due to ammonia poisoning. I went through what I thought was a mini cycle but I found out (after better understanding the nitrogen cycle) that my tank was never cycled in the first place.

It is cycled now so I went to get some more tiger barbs to join the one TB I had left. I bought 3 but one died the next day. My TBs were all outgoing and would swim in front of the tank but now for some reason the 3 I have left are extremely skittish and always hide from me.

Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 10

The only thing I can think of is maybe they're skittish because there's only 3 of them? But my original TB was extremely outgoing when there was just him and they were all outgoing the first couple days I brought the new ones home. Anyone have any idea what could be going on?

1. The Closest pet store to me is 3 hours away. I am wondering if tiger barbs in a small bag for 3 hours will cause them to get nasty and rip apart each others fins before they even get home? What do you think?

2. Does it matter the male female ratio of tiger barbs? Can petstores tell the difference?

3. What are some things to look for to get healthy tiger barbs? Is it better to get them small or big?

Thanks!
