I have a 30cm pleco, have had him for around 5 years and the last few days he has stopped eating and become really bloated. He also does crazy...Hey,
I have a 30cm pleco, have had him for around 5 years and the last few days he has stopped eating and become really bloated. He also does crazy swimming up to the top of the tank and goes whole head out of the water then just goes back to sucking the side of laying on the bottom.
Water tests fine and tank is well established and cleaned every 2 weeks or so.
He lives in a 120L tank with 2 black ghost knifes and 4 clown loaches and some 4 gourami.
I have started a treatment for internal parasites. It is a white powder I got from the fish shop, I can't remember the name but it started with Z and ended with zole.

Wed, 11 Nov 2009 18:32:37 GMTUp until Monday I thougt my plecos fave food (I have bristlenoses and clown plecs) was cucumber, then I put a mussel in the tank for my other catfish...Up until Monday I thougt my plecos fave food (I have bristlenoses and clown plecs) was cucumber, then I put a mussel in the tank for my other catfish and clown loaches etc and the plecos went mad over it!
Has anyone else tried mussels and if so what were the results? Mine are from the LFS for aquarium use

Wed, 11 Nov 2009 15:12:20 GMTI have a Sailfin Pleco and a Kuhlii loach in my main tank. the loach from time to time attempts to get under the pleco. needless to say the pleco...I have a Sailfin Pleco and a Kuhlii loach in my main tank. the loach from time to time attempts to get under the pleco. needless to say the pleco doesn't like it much. The pleco has been "grabbing" the loach with his mouth and takeing him to the surface letting him go as they break water. is this normal or do I need to considering moveing one of them. The loach doesnt appear to have any injuries. but I don't need to wake up one morning to a dead fish, because they don't "play well with others"

Tue, 03 Nov 2009 03:06:00 GMTI have a 55 gallon tank with a single 12" pleco. I have had the pleco for 2 years, and he has been in his new tank since july. He has been active and his usual piggy self until 2 days ago. The only thing that I have changed is his filter componants. I have a Fluval 205 filter and until 2 days ago I had biomax and charcol in it. I then changed to biomax, charcol and clearmax. Now my pleco looks like he is shedding. There is a very fine layer of something hanging off what looks like his back, about 2 1/2 inches long and about 1 1/2 inches wide. Very fine. And he is not eating. Is this because of the filter material change? I did not change any of the water at the time because I do not change water and filter material at the same time. Can someone tell me what is going on?

I'm trying to find out how big they get. one site I look them up says 3" the next will say 5" and one said 12"
are they a newer fish to the hobby as I can't find that much on them
what are their food and water requirements
