I have 2 cory catfish in my tank, and plan to get 2 more. Does the male to female ratio matter at all? I haven't found anything that says it does. I can't tell the gender of those I have now. They look pretty much the same, except one is darker.
Thanks!

So a couple weeks ago I lost one of my three albino cories. He'd been with me at least 2 years - hard to say before that as I lost my old notebook. I came home one day and he was listless and his tail fin was all chewed up. I attributed that to an attack by the silver dollars, started in with the Melaflix and hoped for the best. He didn't make it. :(

Now its two weeks later, I get home from class and another one of my albino cories is laying sideways on a rock, fin all intact and looking quite dead. Depressed, I go in to pull him out and he swings back into life like nothing's wrong! I can't figure it out and it makes me worried that the other fish are in for a bad day soon ....

Here's the facts: he looks fine - his fins are all intact, his scales look normal. His eyes do look a little pale, but they move normally and whatnot. The tank is very stable lately (pH 6.2, DKH 4.0, dGH 6.0, ammonia/nitrite at 0, and Nitrates fairly consistently in the low 20s PPM). Temperatures in the upper 60s Fahr. The only real change is that I switched out the airline and the airstone recently - and this airstone isn't quite up to par.

So is this old age?

Is there something I should be looking out for in specific that I don't know about? Am I crazy to blame the silver dollars (and these guys are aggro from time to time) and should assume fin rot and pull this guy and euthanize him now? What do others think?

I don't have a quarantine tank set up .... I know, I am a crappy fishkeeper.

Yesterday, I bought a Cory from my LFS and unfortunately it has since died during the night. He seemed to be doing fine all of yesterday, so I'm wondering what ciuldve gone wrong. When I found him dead this morning, he seemed to have what looked like internal bleeding on one of his sides, the other looks normal. I was wondering what mightve caused his death as well as what the red patch is. I currently have an algae problem in my tank that I'm working on controlling(water's green). The other fish in my tank include guppies (1adult and many fry), an adolescent Molly, Chinese algae eater, pond snails and an apple snail. I'll post a picture of the Cory shortly if I can. (I do not know my water parameters.)

I have two cory's who seem to never slow down, they are constantly swimming up and down the sides of the glass. They will jet from one side of the tank to another on the the top of the waters surface from time to time too. I rarely seem them resting, should I be concerned?

Thanks for all of the helpful advice I would be lost without this site!

I want to get a Cory to go in a tank with 2 small Severums to clean up the food that they don't eat ( I'll give him shrimp pellets too). Can anyone suggest a certain kind of Cory and does size matter? I know that in the past the albinos seem to be the most active in our community tank.
