Well i woke up today to find a ton of fry. I just stood there watching...
Then one of the older fry (like 1 1/2 months old) was shaking something up from the bottom. i thought it was food... So i look closer and lo and behold he was eating what seemed like a dead guppy baby. The reason i thought this was because i saw 2 eyes.. then i noticed it looked weird... as if he was squished or something... well the "thing" turned and i then see 4 eyes. The second older guppy fry came along and started having a feast. I pulled out the 2 guppies (tied at the back) and just stared at them. They were so beat up i just went ahead and threw him in the convict tank... i felt bad but i didnt want him to suffer....

Is that normal?

It looks like my guppy spawned some youngsters today. But guess what... the only trace I find is some black and yellow stuff inside the ghost shrimp and bloated bellies of other fish...

I had a very busy schedule today, but I sensed that one of my female guppies was acting differently when I was giving them breakfast. I should have moved her to a breeding tank, but I just didn't have enough time so I just let it be.
And when I came back 12 hours later, I just see her gravid spot not as dark as before and something inside the bellies of my fish although I haven't fed them. man.. my worry came out true.

Is there any way she might spawn more within few days? because she still has some gravid spot. I'd like to securely get them this time.

Some parts of the plant areadly look ragged. Will this kill the plant and are my guppies hungry even after meal or are they just playing around?

:( Can Anybody tell me is there is problem with guppies at the moment, I bought 6 guppies from Pets at Home on Sunday, and placed in Quarantine Tank, (Quarantine Tank has been set up since April 2009, keep two fish in there to keep the filter going, when I get new arrivals I place two fish in my main tank) Water changes weekly since it 48 litres must change at least 75% of it. Test Water Weekly, daily when adding new additions, Water Tested Sunday: ammonia 0, nitrite 0, Ph 7.4 nitrate 0. Monday Tuesday Wednesday and today tests were the same. But I had 1 fish not looking good on Monday and that was taken back to the shop, rest seemed fine, 1 fish was replaced with 2 female guppies, they seemed fine. but between yesterday and 5pm today 5 fish have died as soon as 2 died I thought it might be a bacterial infection as fish showed no other signs of illness, so I took carbon out of the filter and treated with Interpet No 9.

Anybody got any answers.

Got Platies, Glowlights from Pets at Home before and they have been fine, in fact platies so fine, they breed worse than rabbits. got sick of taking babies back to the shop hence 2 lovely angels

Hello again!

I've had my guppies for several days now and as I get to know more about them, my worries are growing more and more. I'm also having terrible fish nightmares in which I have nothing to do but to watch my poor guppies dead and floating on their bellies.:;fru

Anyways!
My yellow guppy has whitish color on the edge of its tail. (I noticed this the first day I brought her home, but wasnt aware of fin rot at all at that time)The other parts of its tail and fins are transparent, but it is only the edge of the tail thats kind of opaque... and ragged... I definitely dont see any reds tho...

So,,, is my guppy suffering a fin rot or is it something else? And what should I do to cure it?

please help me get my fish tank get going.. I'm seriously considering returning a sick one and get a replacement, but I want to make this my last choice since my little boy guppy spends most of his time with her.

BTW I got my test kit and my parameters read:
0 for Ammonia
0 for Nitrite
5 for Nitrate

Also, I wanted to take a good picture of it because I know that one picture will say much more than what I can describe, but I couldn't get any accurate shots since she was never staying still with my camera around the tank.

She left three babies behind, so it's kinda bittersweet. She was a brilliant yellow little girl. Very pretty. I hope one of the babies looks like her. We saved our first molly babies, so we're gonna save our first guppy babies. It may be a few weeks before they're big enough to capture on camera. They're tiny and pink right now. :)

Hello fish lovers,

I've been looking through the forum for this question, but I just could not find exact ones to get an answer for mine. So here is my question.

I have a 20 gallon tank with 4 guppies, a small sunset gourami and 10 ghost shrimps with enough(i think) hiding places using mimic woods and some real rocks. I also have a few plants but I am planning to get some more java mosses. My fish seem happy in the tank.

However, whenever I turn on the light during the day(I mean the light dedicated to the tank), two of my larger female guppies seem very stressed as they just stay on top of the water without moving much.

So is it better to turn off the light and let the sunlight indirectly but naturally brighten the tank or do I still need a light of my tank's own? At this point, I kind of get a feeling that the purpose of lighting is to allow selfish humans to look better at their pets:(

Or could it be that they are actually not being stressed by the light and it's normal for them to stay on top?

ps. I'm using a fluorescent light that was included in my 20 gallon starter kit and the temps stay near 76 degrees Farenheit every day since that's what my room stays at every day.

I just added four male lyre tail guppies to my twenty gallon today. At least, I'm pretty sure they're male, you sex them the same way you do platies, right? And the petstore claimed they were all male, but thats what they said about my female platies.

They look really good in the tank - I don't have a camera but I'm going to try to see if I can get a friend to take a picture. They are mostly whitish silver with orange areas. They really pull the tank together for a more uniform look, my platies are red orange and my dwarf gourami is silvery blue with tiny orange stripes - It looked a little awkward before.

In other news... I got a black moor goldfish today too, but thats another tank.

Hello

I will get stright to the point, one of my male guppys has a bloated stomach. I only noticed it about 5 days ago. I checked my levels and the nitrate was 50 (all others were ok) so i did a water change.

He lays at the bottom of the tank, but when he swims hes sort of pointing upwards and when he stops he starts to sink. I have also notice his poo is a white/see-through colour, is there anything it can be?

I've looked on the internet and I dont think its Dropsy his scales look fine and his eyes arn't popping.

I did think Nitrate poisoning but all my other fish are ok.

Would appreciate any help

I have a ten gallon tank with about 15 guppies and 3 platies. Lately the female guppies starting picking at the two orange platies (not the white one). The swim up and start picking at the sides of the platy and the platy layes down sideways. It's been going on for about a week and I tried isolating the platies for a while but it started up again as soon as I let them back in the tank. Lately as soon as a guppy swims up to them they just lay down sideways (horizontal). Any ideas what's going on? As I said they leave the white platy alone... All platies are female since the male died. Please help!!
