I'd like some advice from people who have kept them on what the sex ratio for Praecox Rainbows should be, I'm planning on getting 5 at the minimum and 7 at the maximum. If there is something wrong with the total number please tell me. Oh, and I understand that males typically have red fins and females have yellow/orange, is this an accurate and good way to sex them or is there a better way?
Thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for any advice!

I just finished adding the last fish to the tanks, after an hour long acclimation.

I received today, shipped from Jakarta, Indonesia, through one of the LFS, an order I placed last Wednesday: a shipment of Glossolepis incisus (Red-Salmon/Irian Red Rainbowfish), Melanotaenia Lacustris (Lake Kutubu/Turquoise Rainbowfish), and Iriatherina werneri (Threadfin/Featherfin Rainbowfish). I requested all to be juveniles.

The thing is they came with a bonus: 33 instead of 30 G. incisus; 32 instead of 30 M. lacustris, and 104 instead of 100 I. werneri. Only one specimen of I. werneri arrived dead, at most three seemed stressed and spent sometime behaving oddly but are now merged with the group.

I'm keeping the G. incisus and M lacustris together as they grow before I split them to their respective species only tanks. The Threadfin will stay in a species only tank all the way.

I'm keeping lighting limited for a couple of days, will start feeding tomorrow evening. Few things (other than work) get me out of MLB (game 5 of World Series), I can tell you, it didn't bother me a bit going out at 930PM to the LFS to wait for them as they made it from the airport.

I've experienced high mortality rates with young adult specimens, let's see how it goes with juveniles. My prior experience with juveniles turned out well.

So Daniella got her first lot of fish for the tank that I am doing for her yesterday. I gave her the new 6x2x2ft & I'm going to have the 4ft I was originally going to do for her. Anyway she went to the aquarium by herself & picked out her first 6 fish. She was supposed to get M. Trifasciata but she ended up getting 3 of them & 3 M. Splendida Inornata - Chequered Rainbows.
As soon as they went into the tank they all started gasping at the surface but after awhile 5 out of the 6 started to act normally & seem fine. One of the Trifasciata is still gasping away at the surface, does not attempt to eat, does not swim around at all & has seperated itself from the others who seem happy enough together. The fish looks healthy from the outside but clearly this is not the case. If it was oxygen starvation it would be more than one fish & there's no way it is that anyway, like I said they are the first 6 fish in a 6x2x2ft.

Does anyone have any ideas about what might be the problem or should I just get her to try to return this fish? She bought it at a dealer I refuse to deal with anymore so I think she was sold a dud & probably quite intentionally as it isn't the first time she has come home with sick fish from this particular aquarium.
