how do you tell males apart?

I moved your thread gmen as that other one was months old....electric males usually have more black in their lower finnage and sometimes a more pronouced head....

still dont know what my yellow cichlids are because of the white ish coloration on their fins the anal mostly

To be honest they are hard to tell the difference. I have a female right now holding that has more black on her anal fin than the male she spawned with. Even a "fish pro" I bought fish from had so much issues telling them apart I ended up with 3 males from him and 2 females by mistake. This is a person who has been into fishkeeping longer than I have been alive, and not a fishstore.

i can tell the king of the tank though he or she lets um all know whos the boss there is 5 in total im still looking for something else to get probably 1 male 4 female afra they look pretty and they stay small . i spent like 3 hours looking to find out what my little one is hes a ugly lil fella some may say but his colors prob will change you can see diff colors all through him kinda

For afras, check out "carolinacichlid" on mbuna part of aquabid. I have bought fish from him and they are wonderful! I got my afras from him as well.

yeah i am definitly going to buy afras i was hopeing to check out a few LFS that i havent been 2 that someone told me they breed mbuna there ut i have been on agua bid and id rather definitly buy fish from people that know what they are lol

Yours def have a difference, I have what they call "lions cove II" and there is no difference really in them, both have white on their anal fins. When I get my camera batteries (I just ordered new ones) I will post mine, and the holding female with the deep black on her.
Mine are confusing!

ok well the one yellow i have has white forming on the upper fin kind of but the other has all yellow on the fin i belive they are both diffrent and they are both r 2 inches but the other is and is a soulsi so they can also show the blak stripe later they also all look more colorfull since i have had them maybe its the food or the water lol

It just depends on the fish and when it matures. When they are ready to spawn the real colors pop out.

so if i buy juvi afras how do i keep the ratio correct? the one site asks how you want them sexed but say i found them in a lfs?

The females will be a duller color, my hai reef are a dull grey and the males are bright blue with bars.
Honestly I never buy fish from fish stores. I only buy them from certain breeders.

i was just looking up on how to tell male frome females the electric yellow males have a black bar though their eye where a female doesnt.

i figured i have 2 males and 1 female.
which i thought was 3 males

i duo my next ones i guess i will order from a breeder and hope that when i ask for 1 male 4 females ill get them that way lol and my strange odd colored one i may give up on figureing out what he is i just call him bubba and will care for him or her well he is the runt but he holds his own
