Elvis, my snowflake eel.

I picked up the "new" 36 BF tank and the lifestock that was in it on Thursday. Saturday I took the 4 damsels to a LFS and left them there. I really fell for the snowflake eel and decided to keep him/her. I would never had guessed in a million years that I would keep an eel but here I am with one. He seems rather shy but does come out to swim around, still won't eat but last ate on Thursday. Any one out there with eels? He really is beautiful, I will post a picture when he comes out. I have decided to call him Elvis because he reminds me of Elvis Presley in his ermine coat. What can I keep with him? I'm thinking about a dwarf Lionfish. The tank didn't take to the move very well so I'm trying to get the nitrates down with WC's. Its not so easy to do WC with saltwater.

I haven't kept an eel before, but i know you have to be careful with tankmates, i'm not entirley sure what size dwarf lionfish get to, but the eel might still eat it? I don't know. How big is the eel?

The eel is 12 inches long and shared the tank with 4 damsels for a year. I've been reading about tankmates and the lion is one that is suggested. Right now I'm happy with just the eel, gives me time to decide on tankmates. I really got the tank to upgrade my seahorse's from 29 gal to 36 gal but now I don't want topart with the eel. The eel is noctural so I would like something like the dwarf lion that livens up the tank. right now it looks like a sand/live rock only tank until Elvis darts out at dusk!!

I have one and I love him!!!! One of my favorites in my tank. I got him and he was thinner then a pencil and about 6 inches long. I have had him prob about a year now or just under and he is about 3 or 4 times bigger by now. He eats lance fish like you or I would eat popcorn. He goes well with many fish and really does not bother anyone. I have a hippo, queen angel, tusk, maroon clown, a trigger, a large damsel and a Volition lion. Him and the lion hang out together sometimes but other then that he does not bother anyone. As long as you have plenty of hiding spaces for him and rock to go underneath. One problem I had was that I could not get the food down to him without the other fish eating it. so, my solution, and I am so proud of this, is that I found a long clear plastic tube that I got from the fish store. I put an end where he likes to come out and I put the food down the tube. The other fish try to get at it but it is inside the tube so they cant. When Snow Flake comes out I lift the tube, he goes under it, grabs the food and goes right back under his rock with it. It is fun to watch him eat. Swallows them whole. Good luck with yours. I hope you enjoy him as much as I do mine. Can't wait to see pictures!!!

Thanks Salvatore for your input. I am really enjoying Elvis. He's still in the tank alone but within the next few weeks I hope to add a lionfish. I'm going to have to research lance fish. I'm feeding him dried shrimp but he does not really seem to like it.
