Green Wolf Eel

I work at a pet store with this BEAUTIFUL green wolf eel. I would love to get him. He's been there for a while, so hopefully, he's not going anywhere soon. I'd like to get a 37 or 47 gallon column tank. I've read they have bred in as small as 30 gallon. Live Aquaria says he needs a 50 gallon minimum. So would he be happy enough in a 37 or 47 gallon column tank?

Also, if he would be happy in a 37 or 47 gallon column tank, who would be compatible for that size tank?

This is what he looks like: Green Wolf Eel

Thanks!

Wow. What a neat species. I've never kept them personally so I can't really give you any information on them. I'm sure some other members will help you out. He sure looks mean! Although beautiful. Best of Luck if you decide to get it. Keep us posted.

Looking at the sizes listed on liveaquaria, the fish can grow to well over 12". I wouldn't keep that sort of fish in anything smaller than a 75 long-term. It also depends on how fast they grow, but given good conditions I would expect it to outgrow a smaller tank in about a year or so.

He's not full size now, and he's in a 20 gallon at work. He seems happy. He's very interested in people. I haven't reached in and pet him of course. He also eats his live fish very quickly.

I don't think I'm going to get him though. I think I'm going to do mostly invertebrates (peppermint shrimp definitely) and a few small fish.
