Hey everybody! im doing some research for a cycling community tank and wanted a centre piece or 2... Was thinking of either one gourami or 2 dwarfs?? what do you think?? i also wanted to get a fighter, would this work?? what other fish would you recommend to go with this bunch?? any help is good help!!

Hello Small Fry. As for gourami's...if you have 2 in a tank they really should be a male and a female otherwise you could have aggression issues. When you refer to "fighter" do you mean a betta? If so, they need to be housed in a home by themselves. They are not a community fish.

I thought that having a male and a female he would harrass her?? and i did mean a betta, i have seen people keeping them in community tanks, is it not a good idea becasue they will pick on others or get picked on??

Both males will fight and both female's will fight. The male and the female wont be that bad. The male will occasionally try to bully the female, but that's normal.

Don't put in bettas or else you will go through scares when he/she gets stressed and that has happened to me so don't put in a betta please it will stress out sometimes. Get a male and a female the fish store should give you a pair.

i keep bettas in community tanks but you really have to build the tank around the betta, not just throw a betta into a community. not all bettas personalities allow them to be a community fish, some are more aggressive then others and they will all be very different. If you really want a betta as your centerpiece you also need to have a tank ready as your back up plan should you need to remove a fish.

you cant put a gourami and a betta together at all FYI, they are not compatible. what size tank is this going to be? in my 55gallon i have a pearl gourami and a paradise gourami. in my 20 i have a betta...but he is so docile that i can keep my fancy lyre tail guppies in there.
