I've had two Gouramis in my 35 gallon tank for about three months now, one a fire drawf and the other a powder blue. They seemed to tolerate eachother at first, but as they got acclimated, the drawf gourami would constantly chase the other around the tank nipping at his fins. Recently it had gotten very bad, with the Blue Gourami having frayed and torn fins. This morning I found the blue guy on the floor dead with a hole in his side. I knew it was going to get to this point eventually, but it progressed rather quickly.

Is my drawf just unsocial or is he just territorial? I thought they had enough room in the tank, but maybe not. I don't think I'm gonna replace the dead gourami, I wouldn't wanna waste money on another dead fish. Do you think my tank was too small or overstocked?

gouramis are naturally territorial..dwarfs also....IMO , leaving them together after they started fighting, wasnt fair to the dead gourami please do not get another one for that that tank as 35 gals is enough for one as you have seen

Unfortunately, I didn't catch it in time. Literally the day after I noticed the frayed fin, the blue guy was dead. I'm not going to replace him. That fire drawf would most likely do the same thing to another gourami, he's evil!!

you said you knew this was going to happen yet you let it happen...so not fair to the fish
