omg he's spitting??

I didn't know they did that! We were eating dinner (which is right near the tank), and he spit a few streams of water up through the surface.

Now I'm completely gourami addicted. It was just too cool. Why do they do that?

Some fish do that to knock insects out of the air so they can eat then

They will also do this when they have eggs/fry in a bubble nest to keep them in the bubble nest

Very cool. I've never seen an anabantid spit before, although I've seen this behavior from SW puffers in the past. He must be very happy in your tank. Great job!

No, he is the only one of his species! Thus why I was confused, because I didn't see any rogue bugs in my tank either, lol.

I think I'd be sitting next to the tank with my camera hoping he'd do it again. lol

I know, right? So of course I sat there for like a half hour and he refused to do it again.

One of mine have does all the time. He spits a stream out of the water up about 2 inches. I didnt think anything of it and thought it was normal because I see him on top of the tank building nests and spitting all the time. Next time I see him doing that I will be sure and try to record it.

Hehe, my gourami does that too. Usually if there's any plant matter floating around he will squirt it onto the glass above the water line. Thanks to him, I have a crud filled corner of my tank, but at least it keeps the water clean.
