| Thinking about getting one... Need some info First of all, how big are these guys? I kind of want it to be sort of the "centerpiece" for my tank, heres the other fish I'm getting:
6 Zebra Danios
6 Cardinal Tetras
3 Ottos
3 Male guppies(my mum loves em)
Also, if anyone thinks a different type of fish would be better, I'm open for suggestions. |

| Sorry, I meant dwarf gouramis. I thought it was a bit obvious because it was on the "dwarf gourami" forum... Are there multiple types of them?
But I really would like some info on these guys! I was thinking about doing an angelfish as my centerpeice fish, but a couple people suggested gouramis instead. Last edited by momo9700; March 11th, 2009 at 08:12 PM.

| oh sorry didnt look at were you put it im too lazy Lol. dwarf gourami make great community fish and a pair would look great if you can find a female. another fish to look into is the Pearl Gourami, very peacful community fish and look great in planted tanks. the DG gets to about 2 in and the Pearl about 4 in. |

| Yeah, pearls were also suggested. Could I get two dwarfs in there? BTW, I kinda want this to be as colorful of a tank as possible, it goes in my living room. I want to be able to show off my fish keeping skills to other people. I like be able to have something to talk about when my parents have guest over lol, plus I'm only 15, so I get bored easily. Also, I think I might get the pearl instead, I'm thinking of making it a planted tank, then I can put my fake plants back in the 10gal! My poor platies are sad that two plants are gone... |

| Is this for your 29 gallon? It would really depend on the personality of the fish for keeping 2 together. For instance, some members here have had bad experience with keeping 2 together, but I have one who is very mild. I haven't tried another dwarf with him, but he tolerated a female betta. |

P.S i get bored easily too, im 13 Yay!!! | Lol, I'm going to get the zebra danios on Sunday(jazz band festival sat) So I'm getting some live plants then. if I get straight A's. my mom is paying for the plants, so I'll get a couple more fake ones for both the tanks too I think. So they really do only have to wait a bit longer lol. |

Would I pick out two that seemed to be getting along fine at the store? |

| i'd say no on the pair, there is no way to tell if they will work together until you get them into your tank, and the vast majority of stores dont carry any female DGs because they aren't as colorful. personally i wouldn't do any more than one gourami in your tank unless you have room for four (one male three females) and IMO a 29 is too small for that |

| sometimes you can find a pair but not in a store, you could check liveaquaria they might have a pair. |

| Well, i don't think I'll do the pair. Seems that it would be hard to keep. I think I'll do either one dwarf, or one pearl then. |

| Well, i''ve seen pics of the pearls. Comparing the pics of pearls on here and what I've seen of DGs, the DG seem more colorful, but I kinda wanted a bigger fish... |

| Hmm... this is a tought decision, and if it turns out my LFS doesn't even have gourami, then I won't even get one. Lol. So then its either a male pearl or a dwarf... I guess I'll see what I like more when I go to get it... |

| Thanks everyone My mom keeps telling me she thinks that the danios need to be in a group of 12 to school...*sigh* So I told her if she wants more fish than are in my plan, she has to help with the water changes. *shakes head* And she keeps saying "When to we get those blue striped ones? Are we getting those? Oh I like guppies! Can we get guppies? Oh wow! Let's get a huge tank and get Oscars! Can we put Discus in your 29?" And things like that... And she wants me to get a pair of Gourami... |

| I know! But she doesn't like lot's of tanks... I barely get my 29 setup, and she wants to get rid of my 10!!! And she saw a HUGE 75gal tall...and she wants that for Discus and probobly oscars...But then she'd get rid of my 29gal...-_- |

| That's why you put fish she absolutely loves in the 29 and 10 so that she would not have the heart to get rid of them. |

| Congratz on your Danios!
I have a Powder Blue DG and a Pearl Gourmai but are in seperate tanks. They both are great fish to have. Gouramis love frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp along with flake food I also feed mine freeze dried bloodworms. You feed your fish a variety of foods and it brings out their colors. |

| I feed my platies tropical crisps and bloodworms, the smaller fish(danios right now) will get a mix of crushed flakes and crisps and one tiny bloodworm. Gave it to my danios today, they love it. But it took them awhile to realize there's food in the tank. |

| Cool! I like watching my Pearl suck in the freeze dried bloodworms like spaghetti |

| LOL! That's funny. I like watching my platies eat... Sparta usually grabs about 2 bloodworms at once and tears them to shreads Then ricky will try to steal whatever Sparta is eating. My neon just frantically swims around catching whatever leftovers he can get.
The danios though... Messy eaters... They keep making the food sink, then they're too slow to catch it before it sinks... Then they're just like "Oh noes... we dropped all our food... Feed us again! We promise! We won't drop it this time!" Like little piggies... I just shake my head... I'll give them itsy bitsy little amounts next time and wait for them to finish so they don't knock it all over before they finish... |
