Hi I noticed last night that one of my Honey Gouramis is suffering from a really badly bitten tail fin. (it is bleeding)

So off i went to my local LFS today to get something to treat her with.

They recommended Malafix which I then bought.

On the drive home I was sure i remembered reading that there was some issues treating labryinth fish with malafix so did a quick search here and sure enough i remembered correctly. But I did not see an alternative suggested

so before I make the 20-30 min drive each way back to the lfs to get a replacement what would you recommend for the hospital tank? (see I do read here and keep a 2nd filter running in my main tank, well you never know when you might need it)

I am actually quite surprised at the reccomendation from the lfs as they are usually very good with their advice and the care they take with their fish even to the point of point blank refusing to sell fish to people who have not cycled their tanks.

The only alternative i recall seeing on the shelves there was stress coat + is that going to help?

i wouldnt use melafix as you are right, labyrinth fish cant handle it...get some stress coat+ and do daily water changes to keep it prestine and about 2 weeks you should see her healing well ...the stress coat has aloe and will help alot
